Building the Canyon 13: Odds & Ends

The Canyon is about done; there's some touchup and minor details to be added, but other than building a stand for it, it's at a point where I'd be proud to display it publicly. So I've spent some time the last couple of days catching up on some backlogged projects.

I built the PNW Miniatures ore car that I bought way back in August. It was a pretty easy one evening build. It just needs lettering and a bit more weathering.

Added some weight to the PNW boxcar, and decaled a number on the sides. I have another Railroad Roman alphabet sheet on order, which will allow me to add initials. You'll note in this photo that I also did some weathering on the ore car.

And I added lettering to 0-4-2 #18.

The engine needs a coat of clear flat and some light weathering. I'll probably do that later in the week when the weather is nicer, since I do my spray painting outside.

4/13/25: I spotted a set of tools on Amazon -- a British import that includes multiple shovels, picks, mallets, wrenches, tool boxes, a couple of ladders, welding equipment, and an air compressor. Plenty of goodies to scatter around this and other layouts and on locomotives. I painted a few items tonight and put them around the Pine Flat scene.

5/19/25: The crow on the roof of the shed is one of a set of four from Miniprints. Two are on top of the water tower, and another one in a nearby tree.

I also got a pair of California condors from Miniprints. One is soaring in the canyon, and the other is perched on a nearby boulder.

5/25/25: I'm just parking this information here: Frenchman River Model Works, Thomas Yorke design.
