Lockwood & San Emigdio 9: Yard Office

The first piece of On30 equipment I bought, back in 2017, was the Shay. I got it in a small lot with a side door caboose, a pulpwood car, and a camp car, from a guy who apparently had visions of doing a logging layout, but gave up on it. The whole bundle cost me $167; these days, I'd pay twice or three times that much.

The Shay has a place on the layout, and the caboose is a staple. The pulpwood car sort of fits -- there was logging in the San Emigdio mountains back in the day -- but I didn't see much of a place for the camp car.

But...it has the newer style low-profile underframe, and low bolster archbar trucks, and it's the same size as a Bachmann boxcar. So I swapped the frame and trucks to one of my repainted Hawthorne Village cars. Looks great, and so far seems to run fine.

What about the body? I built some cribbing, added the steps and smokejacks that came with the car, and dubbed it as my yard office. It needs some signs, maybe a light spray or wash of tan or gray to tone down the factory weathering, and a bunch of details from the Airfix tool set I bought a while back. But I think it will look pretty good.
