Another Engine

Latest addition to the roster is this neat little 0-4-0.

It came lettered for Pennsylvania, with the number 1. I sanded off the road name with 1000 grit sandpaper and gave it a quick spray of black. I already have an engine 1, so the number had to go as well. I forgot about the round number plate on the front of the smokebox.

I bought this one in anticipation of building a smaller layout -- probably 24 x 36 -- the Christmas display that my wife proposed last fall, which led to me to build the Frazier Borate layout.

(Later note) I've decided to call this Frazier Borate #1; the other Porter is L&SE #1. I am thinking about giving it an auxiliary tender from Cumberland Shops -- see photo below from their web site. I will probably also paint the window sash brown instead of red, which seems a little too garish for an industrial railroad.

3/5/25: The 0-4-0 sat in the box until recently, when I finally got around to repainting it as I discussed in the original post.

It ended up being renumbered and lettered as L&SE #6 (it with my sixth On30 engine). I painted the window sash brown, which was a huge improvement, and added a bell cord from a strand of copper wire, and gave the whole thing a light weathering.

I did buy the Lambert tender I mentioned earlier, but haven't painted or detailed it yet. I may get to that project over the summer.

Meanwhile, it's a good thing I upgraded this engine when I did; the 0-4-2 that was my main non-DCC motive power took a header off the layout and is currently out of service. Number 6 will likely be representing for the L&SE at Gary Beatty's mini-fiesta in May when I take the San Emigdio Canyon mini down there.
